Domestic Violence

Victims of domestic violence have special rights under several public benefits programs in Nebraska. The WDPP works to ensure that these rights are protected. For example, Aid to Dependent Children/Employment First participants can receive exemptions from the work requirements if they have been a victim of domestic violence and need additional time to address barriers. These rights come as a result of the Family Violence Option, which the WDPP worked in conjunction with other advocates to establish under Nebraska law. In addition, victims of domestic violence can receive a Good Cause Waiver from the requirement to cooperate with child support enforcement if contacting the absent parent will place any member of the household in danger.
