Core Values. Common Ground. Equal Justice.
The Nebraska Appleseed Center for Law in the Public Interest, Inc.
is a non-profit, non-partisan law project. Nebraska Appleseed addresses problems such as limited access to legal representation, unfair legislation and public policy, and denial of basic rights and opportunities at their roots rather than the symptoms.
Nebraska Appleseed focuses on core values and common ground held by most Nebraskans, helping to create practical and reasonable solutions to persistent problems.
Nebraska Appleseed has Five Main Program Areas
- Low Income Self-Sufficiency
- Immigrant Integration & Civic Participation
- Children in Need of Protection
- Access to Justice
- Building Democracy
Nebraska Appleseed seeks policies and practices that:
- Support low-income Nebraskans in becoming truly self-sufficient
- Promote the integration and participation of immigrants in Nebraska communities
- Provide safe and adequate child welfare services for Nebraska's children in need of protection
- Increase low-income Nebraskans' access to affordable legal assistance
- Build democracy through increased low-income Nebraskan participation in electoral and public policy decisionmaking processes.
Nebraska Appleseed's accomplishments include protecting the rights of the working poor at the legislature and in the court, gaining self-sufficiency policies at the state and local levels, winning better targeted economic development policy, expanding opportunities for newcomer integration and immigration policy reform, and improving access to legal representation and voting opportunities for thousands.
Nebraska Appleseed uses all paths to justice, such as community education, negotiation, research, network building, legislation, and litigation.
